I AM HOPE

I AM HOPE is the youth and community focused support group run by The Key to Life Charitable Trust, started by Mike King. For the several years Key To Life have been promoting positive societal attitudinal change in schools and communities up and down the country, and funding private care and counselling for young people stuck-in-the-mud on waiting lists.

We know kids want to take agency of their own mental health development AND their communities’. We give kids permission to do just that, and contribute directly to the social change we’re all working towards.

We speak and communicate directly to and with kids. We are unconventional, grassroots, provocative and anti-establishment simply because we know that our approach is effective at engaging with kiwis.

What we do

Free mental health counselling

Government agencies are doing their best, but some kids are stuck waiting up to six months to receive the counselling they urgently need.

We connect kids with mental health counsellors and practitioners in their region or online, so they can get timely support, without the added stress of how to pay the bill.

School, corporate & public talks

Mike and the I AM HOPE team members can be booked for school, corporate and public mental health talks.

You can help keep the national conversation moving by recommending I AM HOPE speaks at your next PTA meeting, social club gathering or school assembly. Get in touch with us today to book one of the team.

Fundraising & advocacy

Mental health is a serious subject, and the I AM HOPE team often provide commentary in the media where appropriate.

We also know fun, off the wall approaches are the best way to keep kiwis talking about mental health. So, we put the fun in fundraising. In 2018, we rode a fleet of Art Scooters all over New Zealand to raise awareness and bring together communities to start talking about mental health and challenging emotions.
